JAMMU, Sept 22: The Indian Red Cross Society, J&K-UT, conducted an intensive First-Aid Training program at Red Cross Bhawan, Kachi Chawni, Jammu, from September 19th to 22nd, 2023. The program aimed to equip a diverse group of drivers and others with life-saving skills and knowledge.
Participants underwent training to develop the confidence and expertise to respond effectively in emergency situations. They learned critical techniques to provide immediate assistance and support until professional medical help arrives.
The training sessions were conducted by Dr. Kavita Nijhon Verma and Dr. Aasia Noor, Medical Officers from IRCS, JK-UT, with support from Smt. Kanchan Devi and Sh. Ravi Kant Magotra, Sup. Pharmacists. The training covered the fundamentals of first aid, including providing assistance in cases of wounds, bleeding, musculoskeletal injuries, burns, heatstroke, poisoning, bites, drowning, fainting, seizures, and unconsciousness. Participants gained hands-on experience in dressing wounds, applying various types of bandages, splinting injured body parts, administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and safely transferring victims.
As a special addition to the training, a Guest Lecture on Yoga and Meditation was included, delivered by Ms. Manjari, State Head of Childline Indian Foundation. This session highlighted the mental well-being benefits of yoga and meditation, offering stress reduction techniques. Ms. Manjari also discussed Childline's efforts to protect the rights of children aged 0 to 18.
Furthermore, a new initiative was introduced during the training-a free eye check-up for all participants. This initiative aims to facilitate the process of obtaining heavy driving licenses.
Rohit Khajuria, General Secretary of the Indian Red Cross Society, J&K-UT, interacted with the participants at the end of the program. He reiterated the organization's commitment to promoting the importance of first aid education and expressed anticipation for continuing impactful initiatives throughout the Union Territory.
