Early Times Report

Khour, Sept 22: The Department of History at Government Degree College Khour organized a seminar on the topic of "Non-Violence as a Weapon in the Freedom Struggle of India" as part of the observance of Gandhi Jayanti. The event was conducted under the esteemed guidance of Principal Prof. (Dr.) T.K Sharma, with the aim of familiarizing students with the pivotal role that non-violence played in shaping the course of the Indian national movement.
The seminar commenced with a warm welcome by Dr. Meenu Chib, from the Department of History, who initiated the session by introducing the importance of Gandhiji's teachings and their enduring impact on people worldwide. Gandhiji, often regarded as a pioneer of truth and non-violence, extensively employed non-violence as a method during India's freedom struggle. This method included the use of Civil Disobedience to challenge unjust laws and oppressive policies. Dr. Chib highlighted how Gandhiji's principles of non-violence continued to resonate in the lives of people across the globe, emphasizing the relevance of these principles in today's world. Students from various streams participated in the seminar with great enthusiasm, contributing their perspectives on the topic. Among the students who spoke during the seminar were Mansi, Sonali, Pankaj, Khushi, and Mehak from the III Semester.
The seminar was graced by the presence of distinguished faculty members, including Dr. Seema Sudan from the Department of Hindi, Dr. Sushma from the Department of Hindi, Dr. Seema Saini from the Department of Dogri, and Dr. Nooreen from the Department of Education, who added valuable insights to the discussions. At the conclusion of the session, Dr. Meenu Chib expressed her gratitude to all the participants and facilitators, presenting a formal vote of thanks. The seminar served as a platform for students to gain a deeper understanding of the significance of non-violence in India's struggle for freedom and to reflect on how these principles can continue to shape a just and peaceful world.
