Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 30: The NSS Committee of GDC Kunjwani/Sainik Colony, Jammu, organized a one-day program on the theme, “Mahatma Gandhi: An Exponent of Truth, Non-Violence, and Tolerance,” on September 30, 2023, to honor the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi, one of the nation’s most prominent freedom fighters, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. The program aimed to highlight Mahatma Gandhi’s enduring principles of peace and non-violence, which continue to inspire generations and have the potential to bring about positive change in the world.
The event took place within the college premises and was held under the patronage of Dr. Ravinder Kumar Tickoo, the principal of the college. Dr. Tickoo commended the joint efforts of the NSS Committee and encouraged the students to embrace Gandhian principles of peace, honesty, integrity, and accountability in their daily lives. He emphasized Mahatma Gandhi’s profound thoughts, ideology, and philosophy, describing him as a charismatic leader who symbolized truth, non-violence, and tolerance. The principal also highlighted Gandhi’s pivotal role in India’s struggle for independence and how he employed non-violent means to lead the nation to freedom.
The program featured various activities, including a Swachhata drive, skits, poster-making competitions, and slogan-writing competitions. Additionally, students provided a practical demonstration of the charkha, the spinning wheel used by Mahatma Gandhi during his time. They explained its significance as a symbol of economic freedom and peace, highlighting how Gandhi popularized its use as part of the independence movement.
The program served as a valuable platform to remember and celebrate the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi, promoting the values of truth, non-violence, and tolerance that he stood for. It encouraged participants to reflect on how these principles can be applied in contemporary society to create a more peaceful and harmonious world.
On the 154th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, staff and students took a pledge to uphold his ideals. The formal vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Bushra Nizami, NSS Program Officer, and Prof. Shamshad Bibi coordinated the program.
This event served as a fitting tribute to Mahatma Gandhi’s enduring legacy and the principles that continue to guide and inspire individuals and communities around the world.
