GDC Khour Concludes Gandhi Jayanti Celebrations with Grand Valedictory Function | | | Early Times Report
Khour, Sept 30: The Government Degree College in Khour concluded its two-week-long Gandhi Jayanti celebrations that began on September 12, 2023, with a grand valedictory function on September 30, 2023. The event was organized by the Department of English in collaboration with the Departments of Dogri and History. The valedictory function commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr. Palvi Mangotra, the Head of the English Department. During her address, she reminded students about the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi and encouraged them to follow the path of peace, truth, and non-violence, which were the golden values advocated by the Father of the Nation. As part of the celebrations, students at the college embraced the Gandhian principle of “Earning while Learning.” They set up sale stalls displaying a variety of self-made items, including art and craft products, reused waste materials, hand-knitted items, and more. These stalls were managed by students Ekta Devi, Preeti Devi, Komal Rajput, Riya Manhas, Ekta Sharma, and Ritika, showcasing their creative skills. Dr. Seema Saini, a lecturer in Dogri, encouraged both faculty and students to support the sale stalls by purchasing products from them. The college’s Principal, Prof. (Dr.) T.K. Sharma, visited each stall, engaging in conversations with the students about their crafts and the ideas behind them. During his speech, Dr. Sharma commended the students for their active and enthusiastic participation in the fortnight-long celebrations. He also educated the students about the significance of celebrating Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday as the International Day of Non-Violence since 2007. Dr. Sharma further motivated the students to embrace Gandhian principles in their lives, emphasizing that this was the primary objective of the entire program. The valedictory function concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Meenu, a lecturer in History. The celebration served as a platform for students to honor Mahatma Gandhi’s teachings and values and promote the ideals of peace, truth, and non-violence in their lives. |
