Early Times Report
KATHUA, Oct 2: In commemoration of the birth anniversaries of two revered leaders, Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri, the National Service Scheme (NSS) units of Degree College Kathua organized a significant online symposium. The event centered around the theme "Life and Contribution of Mahatma Gandhi Ji and Lal Bahadur Shastri Ji in the Indian Freedom Struggle Movement." Over twenty dedicated NSS volunteers actively participated as speakers, sharing their insights during the symposium.
The symposium commenced with a warm welcome address by Prof. Manmohan Singh, the senior-most NSS Programme Officer. Prof. Singh delivered an informative and enlightening lecture on the lives and contributions of Mahatma Gandhi Ji and Lal Bahadur Shastri Ji, setting the stage for the discussions that followed.
Several volunteers, including Kirti Salaria, Iqra Kouser, Meenakshi Devi, Keshav Sambyal, Nandani Jasrotia, Sneha Sharma, Ritu Jasrotia, Nikita Sharma, Natasha Mehra, Tannu Bhagat, and more, passionately expressed their views during the symposium. They highlighted Mahatma Gandhi's pivotal role in freedom movements such as the Champaran Satyagraha Movement, Non-Cooperation Movement, Civil Disobedience Movement, and the Quit India Movement. Additionally, they shed light on the statesmanship qualities of Lal Bahadur Shastri Ji during the Indo-Pak War and his tenure as the Prime Minister. The importance of Shastri Ji's iconic slogan, "Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan," was emphasized as well.
Prof. Neha Bandral, NSS Programme Officer, delivered a heartfelt address, encouraging volunteers to study the lives of Mahatma Gandhi Ji and Lal Bahadur Shastri Ji and to follow in their footsteps as champions of patriotism, culture, and the diversity of India. She also commended the NSS volunteers for their active participation and for paying tribute to these remarkable personalities.
