Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 2: On the occasion of the International Day of Non-Violence, the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit, known as IMDAD, at Government Degree College Darhal came together to pay tribute not only to the birth of Mahatma Gandhi but also to the enduring principles he stood for, including mutual respect, justice, and the potency of peaceful actions.
Mahatma Gandhi's legacy is deeply rooted in the principles of truth and non-violence, which were the cornerstones of his philosophy. At GDC Darhal, a webinar was organized as part of the Gandhi Jayanti Celebration, G20, and Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav initiatives to promote his ideology. Numerous participants from the college actively engaged in the webinar, sharing their insights on Truth and Non-Violence. Dr. Sunil Kumar Mangoch, the NSS Programme Officer, introduced the event to the audience.
Professor Mussaraf Hussain Shah, the esteemed principal of the college, delivered the welcome address. He commended the participants and organizers for propagating Gandhian Ideology, emphasizing its relevance in a world marked by increasing alienation and hatred among individuals and nations. Prof. Shah quoted Gandhi, saying, "Our ability to reach unity in diversity will be the beauty and the test of our civilization."
Professor Makhdoom Ahmed, speaking at the event, highlighted that prior to this day, college students actively participated in the Swachta hi Sewa campaign as a tribute to Gandhi on his birthday anniversary. Dr. Sunil Kumar Mangoch, the event coordinator, shed light on the contemporary importance of truth and non-violence, emphasizing their role in the present era.
The speakers applauded the efforts in promoting the ideals of non-violence and unity in diversity. The program concluded with a Pledge Ceremony for a Drug-Free India (Nasha Mukh Bharat), followed by the singing of the National Anthem and the inspirational "Sarvamati k Sant" song dedicated to Gandhi ji, performed by the NSS Volunteers of the College.
The commemoration of the International Day of Non-Violence at GDC Darhal serves as a reminder of Mahatma Gandhi's enduring legacy and the timeless values of truth and non-violence that continue to inspire and guide us in today's world.
