IGNOU Jammu organizes one-hour Shramdan
10/2/2023 10:12:03 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 2: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Regional Centre in Jammu recently organized a Shramdan (voluntary labor) activity under the Swachhta Pakhwada campaign on October 1, 2023. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from IGNOU officers, staff, coordinators of Learner Support Centres, and students, making it a resounding success.
In line with the Government of India's Special Campaign 3.0, Swachhta Pakhwada (Cleanliness Fortnight), and mission LiFE (LiFE - Learning for Education), all institutions and departments were directed to observe a Swachhta (Cleanliness) event, also known as Shramdan Activity, on October 1, 2023, at 10 AM.
The Shramdan activity was executed under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Sandeep Gupta, the Regional Director of IGNOU Jammu. The Regional Centre had identified a site on National Highway, Akhnoor Road near Shakti Nagar Puli, for this initiative. A geotagged photo of the site was uploaded on the Swachhta Portal on October 25, 2023. The Shramdan activity took place at the same location, which had accumulated a significant amount of single-use plastic waste.
The Shramdan event was conducted from 10 AM to 11 AM, in accordance with the Government of India's directives. Deputy Mayor Shri Baldev Singh Billoria also participated and graced the event. This initiative aligns with the vision of Hon'ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi for Swachh Bharat (Clean India) and the dream of Mahatma Gandhi for a Swachh Bharat.
The identified site at Shakti Nagar Puli track on Akhnoor Road National Highway, located adjacent to a walkway frequented by people of all age groups for morning and evening walks, was thoroughly cleaned. The accumulated garbage was collected and placed in large disposable bags, which were then transported for disposal by a vehicle provided by the Jammu Municipal Corporation before 11 AM.
Dr. Asha Upadhyay, Assistant Regional Director of IGNOU, expressed her appreciation and gratitude to Deputy Mayor Baldev Singh for his presence and encouragement. She also commended the active and enthusiastic participation of the staff, students, and media personnel for their roles in making this event a grand success.
The Shramdan activity by IGNOU Jammu demonstrates a commitment to cleanliness and environmental responsibility while contributing to the broader vision of a Swachh Bharat and the principles of Mahatma Gandhi.
