On this occasion, Mayor Rajinder Sharma said that about Mahatma Gandhi, renowned scientist Albert Einstein has said that for such a personality, the coming generations will find it difficult to believe that such a human has ever walked on earth. He further said that the principles of truth and non-violence propounded by Gandhi Ji are even relevant today. "Neither Gandhi was the commander of a big army nor he was an emperor and he was also not a wealthy man, but still, he is remembered in the world for his two principles of truth and non-violence," he further said, adding: "Today the government led by PM Modi and the rest of India follows these principles of Gandhi Ji, and Swachhata mission is also based on these." The Mayor said that the Swachhata mission was started in 2014 with 4-5 objectives to be fulfilled, and those were stopping open defecation, solid and liquid waste management, ending manual scavenging, management of menstrual health, and capacity building. "Doing all these years in the whole of India about 4043 cities, 7 lakh villages, and 8.3 million people participated in Swachhata mission, and these included officers of organizations and the common public, and Rs. 40700 crore were spent on making 89.9 million toilets in the country to end open defecation," Sharma further said. He informed that the UN had set the objective of sustainable growth and had stated that by 2030, all countries should end open defecation, but India did it 11 years back. "Modi government deserved a big congratulation for this as they converted Nirmal Bharat mission started in 2009 to Swachhata mission, and we today reached this stage," the Mayor continued. He said that JMC also did a lot of good work in this regard, and door-to-door garbage collection was started, which is continuing even today efficiently. "Today 110 kanal land is kept for waste management, and the methane gas produced from there will be given to Indian Oil, and the manure to SKUAST," he continued. |
