First annual Butterfly festival begins in Environment Park Raika | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 7: The 1st Annual Butterfly Festival took flight today at Environment Park, Raika, Jammu, marking a vibrant celebration of the exquisite world of butterflies and the rich biodiversity of the region. The festival was organized by the Jammu & Kashmir Department of Ecology, Environment, and Remote Sensing (JKDEERS-EIACP Hub) The event was launched by the Vice-Chancellor of SKUAST-Jammu- Dr. BN Tripathi, as the Chief Guest. He appreciated the efforts of the department and the festival witnessed an enthusiastic gathering of approximately 500 participants. Among them were college students from Jammu region, esteemed academicians, and dedicated researchers, all eager to delve into the fascinating world of butterflies and explore the ecosystem they inhabit. This inaugural festival aimed to shed light on the importance of the diverse flora and fauna of the UT of Jammu and Kashmir, with a special focus on the fragile yet essential butterfly ecosystem. Dr Shaka Sharma Govt Degree College, Gandhinagar conducted the Butterfly trail and explained about their habitat by giving live examples , while Dr Neeraj Sharma delved into the intricacies of butterfly & moth differences and taught how to rear butterflies at home. The sessions engaged the audience with enlightening discussions on the significance of conserving the state's natural treasures. The festival offered a platform for attendees to immerse themselves into educational sessions, and captivating exhibitions, all dedicated to fostering a deeper understanding of butterflies and their vital role in our ecosystem. From butterfly-themed art and drawing competitions to informative lectures, participants had the opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge about these delicate and beautiful creatures.
