Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 7: Civil Defence, Jammu, in collaboration with the Directorate of Homeguards, Civil Defence & SDRF Jammu & Kashmir, organized a one-day workshop at the Civil Defence Control Room. The workshop focused on the crucial theme, "Role of Educational Institutions in Disaster Management & Civil Defence," and saw participation from NSS students representing various colleges. Dr. S. K. Pandita, Head of the Department of Disaster Management at the University of Jammu, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy. SP) Anita Pawar, Deputy Controller of Civil Defence, Jammu, delivered the welcome address and an introductory speech. In her address to the participants, Dy. Controller Civil Defence, Jammu, commended the college authorities for their cooperation and coordination in organizing the workshop. She encouraged all NSS students to actively contribute to serving communities during both manmade and natural disasters. Approximately 70 students attended the workshop, which took place in the Conference Hall of the Civil Defence Control Room in Jammu. During the event, Dr. Ronika Sharma, Professor and Head of the School of Education at MIER College of Education, Jammu, delivered a lecture on the workshop's topic. Additionally, Dr. S. K. Pandita, the chief guest and speaker, provided insights through a presentation on the subject matter. The event also witnessed the participation of Professor Mala Bhasin, Head of the Department of Botany at Government Degree College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, as well as Dr. Mohd Majeed, NSS Program Officer at Government Degree College for Women, Parade Ground, Jammu, and Dr. Gurpreet Kour, NSS Program Officer at Government Women Degree College Parade Ground, Jammu. As a token of appreciation, mementos were presented to the speakers and participating colleges. The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks by R. Vijay Magotra, Deputy Chief Warden of Civil Defence, Jammu, expressing gratitude to all the participants. This workshop aimed to enhance awareness and preparedness for disaster management among the youth and educational institutions in the region. |
