RS PURA, Oct 8: The 22nd Institutional Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC) meeting was convened at the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, R. S. Pura campus of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-Jammu), under the leadership of Prof. B.N. Tripathi, Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu.
Prof. M S Bhadwal, Chairman of IAEC and Dean of Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, R S Pura, extended a warm welcome to all the committee members. He provided an overview of the steps taken by the faculty for the welfare of laboratory and large animals housed on campus. He outlined the agenda for the meeting, which included eight proposals related to laboratory animals and six proposals concerning clinical cases.
During the meeting, the member secretary presented each agenda item one by one, facilitating detailed presentations and in-depth discussions among committee members. Prof. Azmat Alam Khan, a nominee from the Committee for Control and Supervision of Experiment on Animals (CCSEA), Government of India, actively participated in discussions, focusing on the 3R concept: reducing, reusing, and refining research protocols for the use of experimental animals.
After thorough deliberation, the committee recommended the approval of two proposals to CCSEA, ensuring compliance with ethical standards and animal welfare.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Pawan Kumar Verma, Member Secretary, who expressed gratitude to the chair, Prof. B.N. Tripathi, and all members of the Institutional Animal Ethics Committee of Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, R. S. Pura. The committee's dedication to ethical research and animal welfare was highlighted as a crucial aspect of scientific endeavors.
