CBC promotes cleanliness through ICOP at Leh college | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 9: The Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, organized an Integrated Communication and Outreach Programme (ICOP) as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign at Government Eliezer Joldan Memorial College (GEJMC) in Leh. Over two hundred students and teaching and non-teaching staff from the college actively participated in the event. Rinchin Angmo, In-charge Principal of GEJMC, expressed her gratitude to CBC for selecting the college as the venue for the program. She encouraged students to take responsibility for maintaining cleanliness in their surroundings and urged them to adhere to the lessons learned during the event. Fariha Yousuf, State Mission Manager of the Municipal Committee in Leh, addressed the students and stressed that cleanliness is not solely the responsibility of the government or municipal authorities, but every citizen's duty. She emphasized Ladakhi culture's inherent aversion to waste production and the importance of returning to these eco-friendly practices to tackle waste management issues. Yousuf also highlighted the potential for waste to become a valuable resource and a source of revenue when managed properly. As part of the ICOP, a 'Swachhata Pledge' was administered to the students, encouraging them to champion cleanliness and dedicate two hours per week to cleanliness-related activities. The event featured mesmerizing performances by the Cultural and Traditional Society, Ladakh, which left the audience spellbound. Additionally, a dustbin was donated to the college, and students actively participated in a cleanliness drive to tidy the college's surroundings. Aamir Amin Nowshahri, Field Publicity Officer from CBC Field Office Leh, thanked the district administration of Leh and the college authorities for their support in conducting the ICOP on short notice. He urged students to prioritize cleanliness and promote it among others. The ICOP aimed to instill a sense of responsibility for cleanliness and waste management among the students and promote a cleaner environment in Leh. |
