Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 10: In a concerted effort to foster scientific and technical awareness among students, the office of Dean Research Studies at Jammu University, in collaboration with the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) in Mumbai, organized a one-day 'Scientific and Technical Outreach Programme' on October 10th, 2023. The event took place in the Brig. Rajinder Singh Auditorium at Jammu University, featuring a range of educational activities. The Chief Guest of the programme was Professor Umesh Rai, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jammu. The event commenced with a preliminary quiz, followed by an inaugural session, a series of lectures, interactive sessions, skits, and a final quiz. Dignitaries, including Professor Anju Bhasin, Dean Research Studies; Smt. Heema Rao, Head of Public Awareness & Foreign Language Section, BARC; and R.K.B. Yadav, Head of Emergency Preparedness & Response Section, BARC, delivered addresses during the inaugural session. Dean Research Studies, Professor Anju Bhasin, highlighted the significance of collaborative programmes like this in line with the National Education Policy. Professor Umesh Rai, the Vice-Chancellor, emphasized the importance of such initiatives in nurturing a scientific attitude among students and commended BARC for organizing the event in partnership with the University of Jammu. The outreach programme featured a series of lectures by BARC delegates on various topics, including Radiation Safety in Health and Environment, Nuclear Reactors, Food Irradiation Technology, and Innovation and Opportunities in BARC. These informative sessions were aimed at broadening the scientific horizons of the 170 students and scholars from various science departments who attended the programme. Participants were awarded certificates by the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, and a quiz competition was also held. Sonakshi Sasan and Jasleen Kaur secured the first prize, while Shivani Sharma and Monica claimed the second prize. Shubham Singh and Vishal Sharma were awarded the third prize, and Sahil Kumar and Damini received the consolation prize. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Professor Satya Paul from the Department of Chemistry, expressing gratitude to all involved in making the event a success. The collaborative effort between Jammu University and BARC aimed to promote scientific awareness and encourage students to pursue scientific excellence. |
