Panel discussion on national educational policy 2020 held at Central University of Jammu | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 19: The Department of Economics, in collaboration with the School of Languages at the Central University of Jammu, organized a thought-provoking panel discussion on the National Educational Policy (NEP) 2020. The event, known as the “Thursday Mind Meet,” welcomed Shri. Kamal P. Patnaik, the Regional Director of the Reserve Bank of India for Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh region, as the Chief Guest, who shared his insights on “New Education Policy for A New India.” During his address, Shri. Patnaik delved into the origins of the National Educational Policy 2020 and emphasized the mechanisms in place to advance the Indian knowledge system. He not only provided a comprehensive overview of the policy but also explored its alignment with India’s economic and financial landscape. Shri. Patnaik highlighted the “3 E’s,” namely Education, Ecology, and Economy, as the foundation of NEP 2020 and stressed the critical correlation between education and the nation’s financial fabric. He shed light on the Reserve Bank of India’s commitment not only to monetary and fiscal matters but also to the educational framework, which is fundamental to the nation’s future. Shri. Patnaik discussed the ongoing changes in Indian universities and pointed out the areas where Indian research needs improvement. He applauded NEP 2020 for making research more responsible, relevant, and people-friendly while promoting learning. Additionally, he addressed the regional imbalances prevalent in India’s educational system and expressed optimism about the transformative changes NEP 2020 aims to bring. Several participants shared their views during the discussion: • Ms. Ananya Khajuria, Research Scholar: She emphasized the importance of an inclusive approach through collaborative research and student exchange programs for holistic development. • Ms. Janhavi Chohan, Post Graduate Student: She appreciated the government’s efforts to integrate traditional knowledge and values into modern education, fostering a deeper connection between students and their cultural roots. • Ms. Kritika, Undergraduate Student: She expressed concerns about the current education structure and noted the positive impact of including Indian regional languages on both students and teachers. The “Thursday Mind Meet” program is a result of the consistent efforts of the Honorable Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sanjeev Jain, to promote research, dissemination of knowledge, and skill enhancement among students. Prof. Jain commended the initiatives by the Department of Economics and the School of Languages and encouraged more such events for the overall development of students. Prof. Yashwant Singh, the Registrar of the Central University of Jammu, also appreciated these initiatives and urged the Department of Economics to organize similar events in the future. The event was moderated by Prof. Vandana Sharma, Convener of the Thursday Mind Meet Programme, and concluded with a formal vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Shaveta Kohli, Associate Professor in the Department of Economics. The event drew a wide audience of students and scholars from various departments of CUJ. |
