Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 21: The Maha Raja Hari Singh Foundation marked the 231st birth anniversary of Maharaja Gulab Singh, the founder of the Dogra dynasty and the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, with a Blood Donation Camp and Facilitation Function. The event was organized in collaboration with Shiv Sena (UBT) J&K unit, headed by President Manish Sahni, and Dr. Navneet Kour, Secretary-General of ISBTI & Chairperson of "SUPPORT NGO."
Dr. Ritu Singh, known as Kunwarani Dr. Ritu Singh, graced the event as the chief guest at SMGS Hospital. The event began with an Ardaas led by Bhai Jee, followed by floral tributes to Maharaja Gulab Singh, with other dignitaries in attendance.
The blood donation camp, jointly organized with the Maharaja Hari Singh Foundation, was held at SMGS Hospital, where volunteers from SHIV SENA and NGO SUPPORT in Jammu donated blood to patients suffering from Thalassemia and Onco Kids. Refreshments were distributed to the donors.
Key attendees included Dr. Dara Singh, Superintendent of SMGS Hospital, Dr. Ashutosh, Principal GMC, Dr. Meena Sidhu, HOD of Blood Transfusion & Medicine, and various other doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff.
Manish Sahni, Shiv Sena State chief, highlighted the significant contributions of Maharaja Gulab Singh, the first Dogra ruler of Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized the Maharaja's role in constructing the renowned Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Temple in the Trikuta Hills of Katra and establishing the Dharmarth Trust to ensure the welfare of pilgrims and the upkeep of various temples and religious sites.
Kunwarani Dr. Ritu Singh, the chief guest, honored Dr. Dara Singh, Principal GMC Dr. Ashutosh, Dr. Meena Sidhu, Dr. GS Saini, Dr. Sanjeev Digra, Dr. Vijay Sawhney, and many other doctors, nurses, and staff members. The doctors and medical staff were commended for their pivotal role in the community service and healthcare. Dr. Navneet Kour expressed her vision of bridging gaps between the government and the public through collaborations aimed at strengthening community service.
During her visit to the Thalassemia and Onco Children wards, Kunwarani Ritu Singh and her team distributed refreshments to the children and their attendants. The first two donors were Sh. Munish Sahni, President of Shiv Sena J&K, and Ms. Simpie Rainal, a member of NGO SUPPORT.
The event also acknowledged the historic significance of SMGS Hospital, built and inaugurated by Maharaja Hari Singh on May 6, 1940, in honor of his ancestor. A portrait of Maharaja Gulab Singh was presented to SMGS Hospital, and a cake-cutting ceremony marked the occasion. Media persons present were also recognized for their contributions.
Several organizations, including Rotary, ISBTI, and YBA, supported the cause, and the event featured enthusiastic participants who raised slogans in honor of Maharaja Gulab Singh and the region's founders.
Manish Sahni and Dr. Navneet Kour presented a vote of thanks to Kunwar Rani Ritu Singh, co-founder of the Maharaja Hari Singh Foundation, and its members for their impactful initiative to serve humanity. They also expressed their appreciation for Superintendent Dr. Dara Singh, his team, Principal GMC Dr. Ashutosh Gupta, Dr. Meena Sidhu, and their teams for their roles in the event.
