Shiv Sena strongly condemns detention of social and political activists amid rally against Israeli aggression | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 22: Shiv Sena (UBT) has expressed strong condemnation for the recent actions taken by the Jammu police, involving the detention of numerous social and political activists hailing from Jammu, Samba, and Kathua districts. These actions resulted in the disruption of a peaceful rally organized under the ‘United Peace Alliance’ banner, which aimed to call for an immediate cessation of Israeli aggression and conflict in Palestine. As per a press release issued by the Party’s Central Office, Manish Sahni, President of Shiv Sena, Jammu & Kashmir, labeled the police’s actions as a direct attack on democracy. He emphasized that the essence of democracy lies in the rights of ordinary citizens to voice their opinions and express themselves through constitutional means. The actions of the police are seen as an infringement upon the democratic rights of the public and are deemed unlawful. Sahni further revealed that the entire organizing committee of the United Peace Alliance, comprising prominent figures like the 94-year-old former MP and MLA Sheikh Abdul Rahman, senior journalist Mir Shahid Salim, Kathua’s IPD leader IP Khajuria, and others, were detained without any official written orders and were released late into the night. Sahni stressed that such undemocratic actions represent a direct assault on the fundamental principles enshrined in the Constitution, which safeguard the basic rights of individuals engaging in peaceful protests. He appealed to the people of Jammu and Kashmir to unite their voices in opposition to the humanitarian crises unfolding in Palestine and to strongly denounce the severe measures and disregard for constitutional standards demonstrated by the Jammu and Kashmir administration. The condemnation by Shiv Sena underscores the importance of upholding democratic values and the right to peaceful protest, even in the face of pressing global issues. |
