Dogri Sanstha, Dr Karan Singh for contributions to culture, language | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 23: The Dogri Sanstha of Jammu came together in a grand celebration to honor the renowned Padma Vibhushan Dr. Karan Singh, in a special award function held at the Kunwar Viyogi Auditorium, Dogri Sanstha, Dogri Bhawan, Karan Nagar, Jammu. The event commenced with a warm welcome by Prof. Lalit Magotra, President of Dogri Sanstha Jammu, who presented Dr. Karan Singh with a bouquet. Prof. Magotra highlighted Dr. Karan Singh's special connection with Dogri Sanstha, expressing gratitude for Dr. Karan Singh's generous donation of land to the organization. This land now serves as a space for the preservation and promotion of the Dogri language and cultural traditions, creating a comfort zone for the organization. The audience was treated to a Bhajan Sandhya (musical evening) that featured Dogri bhajans penned by Dr. Karan Singh. Internationally acclaimed singer Seema Anil Sehgal, along with local talents Kusha Sharma and Chinmaya Sharma, lent their voices to these beautiful compositions. The musical performances were accompanied by Parshotam Kumar and other instrumentalists. In the latter part of the event, Dr. Karan Singh was presented with a citation-cum-memento. Dr. Karan Singh has received numerous accolades over the years for his colossal contributions to society, including the prestigious Padma Vibhushan in 2005 and the Memorial Medal of the Tree of Peace, an international peace award bestowed by a Slovak non-governmental organization in 2021. Dr. Karan Singh has had a multifaceted career, having served as Chancellor of institutions like Jammu University, Benaras Hindu University, and Jawaharlal Nehru University. He has also been a Member of Parliament in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha for several years. His involvement extends to numerous organizations and committees, including the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), the Commonwealth Society of India, and the Delhi Music Society. Furthermore, he chairs the Virat Hindu Samaj, which advocates for social reform based on universal Vedantic values. Speaking at the event, Dr. Karan Singh commended the Dogri Sanstha for its continuous literary activities and for its efforts to promote the mother tongue, Dogri. He emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting the language and traditions of the Dogra region, calling for individual and collective efforts in this regard. Dr. Karan Singh also delighted the audience by singing one of his new bhajans upon their request. As part of the event, five publications of Dogri Sanstha were released by Dr. Karan Singh. The occasion also saw the presentation of certificates to volunteers of Dogri Sanstha and the exhibition of a rare collection of Dogri Sanstha publications and Dogri books by celebrated authors at book stalls. The event was hosted by Inderjeet Kesar and Prof. Veena Gupta, Vice Presidents of Dogri Sanstha. The citation honoring Dr. Karan Singh was read by renowned broadcaster and Dogri poetess, Promila Manhas, and the program was conducted by theatre activist Raj Kumar Behrupia. |
