Shiv Sena calls for restoring statehood, special rights in J&K | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 26: On the occasion of Accession Day, commemorating the historic moment when Jammu and Kashmir became an integral part of India, Manish Sahni, President of Shiv Sena (UBT) Jammu and Kashmir Unit, called for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood and the preservation of its cultural identity through Article 371. He also demanded special rights in education, employment, and land for the region. Maharaja Hari Singh’s signing of the Instrument of Accession on October 26, 1947, marked a significant day in history, as it integrated Jammu and Kashmir with India. However, the state subsequently lost its statehood and special rights, leaving its people awaiting the return of democratic processes. In a symbolic move, Manish Sahni inaugurated a Women’s Complaint and Assistance Center at Ranbir Yatri Bhavan in Jammu, a facility aimed at addressing women’s concerns and providing support. Sahni highlighted the importance of upholding the terms and conditions under which Jammu and Kashmir acceded to India in 1947, emphasizing that these agreements were made for the benefit of the people of the region. He urged the Modi government to fulfill its promise and restore the state’s statehood, allowing the people to participate in democratic processes, which they have been deprived of for over five years. Key members of the Shiv Sena organization, including Meenakshi Chhibber, President of the Women’s Wing, and other prominent leaders like Sanjeev Kohli, Balwant Singh, and Youth Secretary Rajesh Handa, were present at the event. The call for the restoration of statehood and special rights in Jammu and Kashmir remains a prominent issue, echoing the sentiments of the people who take pride in their Indian identity and historical heritage on this significant day in the region’s history. |
