Hyderabad, Oct 27: In a significant address at the Dikshant Parade of the 75th RR batch of Indian Police Service (IPS) officers, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, emphasized the crucial role of technology in modern policing. The event, held at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy, brought together dignitaries, officers, and trainees from various backgrounds.
Home Minister Amit Shah commended the officer trainees for their dedication and expressed the historical significance of their batch, which coincides with India's centenary celebrations of independence. He emphasized that these officers would play a pivotal role in ensuring the country's internal security, border protection, and law and order.
Amit Shah underscored the importance of technology in addressing modern security challenges. He spoke of the Police Technology Mission, an initiative led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aimed at making Indian police among the most technologically equipped forces worldwide. The mission focuses on enhancing practical technology use, enabling police to remain two steps ahead of criminals.
Furthermore, Shah discussed the need for officer trainees to combine their training with practical experience to efficiently carry out their duties, highlighting the importance of technology in achieving this goal.
The Union Home Minister commended the achievements of officer trainees, including a woman officer who received the Best Officer Trainee Award. He noted the historical significance of this achievement, indicating the growing role of women in development, a theme advocated by Prime Minister Modi.
In his speech, Amit Shah acknowledged the sacrifices and contributions of police personnel to safeguard India's internal security, noting the sacrifice of more than 36,500 police officers and jawans over the years. He lauded their commitment and encouraged the officer trainees to draw inspiration from their legacy.
Amit Shah also recognized the evolving security landscape, citing challenges such as organized crime, cybercrime, and financial crime, including cryptocurrency-related issues. He called upon the police to address these challenges with dedication.
Moreover, the Home Minister highlighted the government's effort to replace outdated colonial laws with new criminal laws to safeguard public rights and access to justice. These new laws mark a transition towards a modern era of criminal justice.
Amit Shah encouraged officer trainees to embrace "Preventive, Predictive, and Proactive" policing, moving away from a reactive approach. He emphasized the importance of sensitivity towards the marginalized sections of society and urged officers to uphold the spirit of the Constitution.
Finally, the Home Minister discussed the progress made in improving law and order in hotspot areas, such as the North-East, Left Wing Extremism regions, and Jammu and Kashmir, acknowledging the challenges faced and the achievements accomplished.
Amit Shah's speech outlined the transformative role of technology in modern policing and the vital responsibility of officers to proactively address evolving security challenges while upholding the principles of justice and the Constitution.
