Government GLDM Degree College Hiranagar organizes seminar on promoting hindi language in science and technology

Hiranagar, Oct 28: Government GLDM Degree College in Hiranagar organized a one-day seminar focused on the promotion of the Hindi language in Science and Technology within Higher Education. The event was presided over by Prof. (Dr.) Lalit Magotra, President of Dogri Sanstha in Jammu. The keynote speaker for this occasion was Prof. (Dr.) Bharat Bhushan Sharma, the Head of Rashtra Bhasha Prachar Samiti, Jammu. The seminar received additional distinction with the presence of Prof. Daya Vilas, former Principal of the Higher Education Department, JK, and Dr. Vijay Sharma, former Professor of History in the Higher Education Department, JK. This program, titled “Uchya Shiksha Mein Vigyan Evam Takneeki Shiksha Ka Madhyam Hindi/Matra Bhasha” (Promotion of Hindi/Mother Tongue in Science and Technology in Higher Education), was conducted in collaboration with the Department of Hindi at Government GLDM Degree College Hiranagar and Rashtra Bhasha Prachar Samiti, Jammu.
Dr. Pragya Khanna, the Principal of the College, expressed gratitude to the esteemed guests in her inaugural address. She emphasized that the Hindi language has a rich history of being a language of research and is fully capable of regaining that status, provided efforts are made by native speakers. Dr. Khanna also noted that events like this play a significant role in bridging the language gap in the scientific and technological world. They represent a harmonious blend of tradition and innovation, preserving the cultural richness of the Hindi language while embracing modernity.
The program commenced with a welcome address presented by Dr. Jyoti Rani, Assistant Professor in Hindi, followed by the lighting of the lamp and Saraswati Vandana, a traditional prayer, performed by students under the guidance of Dr. Mukesh Kumar, Assistant Professor in Music.
Prof. (Dr.) Lalit Magotra emphasized that in an era of rapid technological advancements, the importance of proficiency in one’s native language in the field of science and technology cannot be underestimated. The Government of India is committed to fostering the growth of Hindi in the domains of science and technology, recognizing the vital role it plays in knowledge dissemination and innovation. Promoting Hindi in science and technology aligns with the broader vision of a technologically advanced and linguistically diverse nation. This investment in Hindi’s growth in these sectors not only preserves the country’s rich linguistic heritage but also empowers scientists and technologists to excel on the global stage.
The program focused on various activities and initiatives designed to achieve objectives such as translation and localization, educational outreach, Hindi language software development, collaboration with IT companies, research grants, and public awareness campaigns. Prof. (Dr.) Bharat Bhushan Sharma, the keynote speaker, stated, “We firmly believe that scientific and technological advancements should not be restricted by language. By promoting Hindi in these domains, we are fostering inclusivity and ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to participate in and benefit from the fruits of scientific progress.”
Seven students presented speeches on different themes related to the seminar. The adjudicators for the program were Prof. Balwan Singh from GDC RS Pura, Dr. Mukesh Rajput from GCW Kathua, and Dr. Kajal Jamwal from GDC Ghaghwal. After thorough discussions, Mr. Vivek Sharma, Ms. Arti Devi, Bandana Devi, and Mansi secured the first, second, and third positions, respectively. Prof. Rakesh Sharma, Head of the Hindi Department, presented the formal vote of thanks and also stressed that the landscape of science and technology is continually evolving, making it imperative for the linguistic diversity of the nation to be reflected in these various fields. The promotion of Hindi in science and technology is a visionary step toward ensuring that knowledge, advancements, and innovations are accessible to a wider audience, regardless of their linguistic background.
The program was attended by students and staff of the college, including Prof. Shujat, Prof. Gurdyal, Prof. Parveen, Prof. Arun, Prof. Ram Krishan, Prof. Surinder, Prof. Neha Bhagat, Dr. Bharat Bhushan, Dr. Arun Kumar, Dr. Anju Rani, Prof. Ritika, and Dr. Usha Rani. The program was held under the overall supervision of Dr. Pragya Khanna, the Principal of the College.
