Early Times Report

Reasi, Nov 1: The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi, in collaboration with Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J), conducted a training program on ‘Agri-entrepreneurship development in rural areas.’ The event, which took place in Kheral village, Reasi district, witnessed active participation from numerous women farmers. The program aimed to empower these women with knowledge and skills in agricultural entrepreneurship.
Dr. Banarsi Lal, Senior Scientist and Head of KVK, Reasi, initiated the program by extending a warm welcome to the participants. He provided a comprehensive overview of agri-entrepreneurship and offered guidance on commercial agriculture to boost income and employment opportunities for the farmers. Dr. Lal emphasized the principles of agri-entrepreneurship, encouraging the farmers to seize opportunities and become agri-entrepreneurs, thus increasing their earnings. He elaborated on diversified farming, discussing the scientific cultivation of cereals, pulses, oilseeds, organic vegetables, millets, spices, and more. The importance of scientific commercial agriculture was highlighted as a means for increasing crop production and, ultimately, elevating the socio-economic status of farmers. Dr. Lal also pointed out that hilly areas possess great potential for growing organic fruits and vegetables, which can fetch higher prices. He discussed the benefits of organic and natural farming practices, including the formulation of organic inputs such as Jeevamrit, Beejamrit, and Panchgavya. Furthermore, the training program covered topics related to self-reliant agriculture (Atmanirbhar Bharat) and organic management practices to address insect-pests and diseases in various crops. Marketing management practices in the agricultural sector were also a key focus of the program. Throughout the training, participants had the opportunity to raise questions and concerns, all of which were addressed by KVK scientists in a comprehensive manner. The women farmers expressed their gratitude to KVK, Reasi, for organizing this valuable program. The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Ms. Anita Devi, an awardee woman farmer, marking a successful initiative aimed at enhancing agricultural entrepreneurship among women in the region.
