2-day seminar on "Community Policing" held at SK Police Academy | | | Early Times Report UDHAMPUR, Nov 4: A 2-day seminar on "Community Policing" concluded today at the S.K. Police Academy in Udhampur. The seminar brought together nineteen dedicated officers from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, holding the ranks of Sub-Inspector (SI) and Inspector. Community policing is a concept deeply rooted in the origins of the police force but has gained significant popularity in recent decades. In democratic societies, emphasizing public relations has emerged as a promising alternative to the traditional law enforcement model. The valedictory function held at the Academy was graced by Rajinder Kumar Gupta, IPS, SSP, Deputy Director (Indoor) at SKPA, who served as the chief guest. In his valedictory address, Gupta highlighted the importance of community policing and effective public relations. He emphasized that the absence of these elements can render the police force distant and ineffective. The new concept of community policing considers crime control and law and order management as truly participative functions, with active involvement from the community. Shri Gupta advised the participants to consider community policing as an integral part of police functioning. The seminar featured eminent speakers, including Dr. Mahesh Koul, Assistant Professor in the Division of Agricultural Economics and ABM at SKUAST, as well as faculty members of the Academy. They delivered informative lectures and shared their valuable experiences with the participants, enriching their understanding of community policing. The coordination of the course was handled by Sh. Rakesh Mani, Inspector, with valuable assistance from Sgct. Tejinder Chopra. This seminar has played a crucial role in enhancing the knowledge and skills of law enforcement officers in the domain of community policing, ultimately strengthening the bond between the police and the community they serve. |
