Nine-day capacity building program empowers Anganwadi workers in Ladakh | | | Early Times Report
Leh, Nov 5: A transformative Nine-Day capacity-building program for Anganwadi workers and helpers, focusing on sewing, stitching, and general life skills, has concluded under the “Usha Silai School program” Pilot Project in Anganwadi Centres of UT Ladakh. Deputy Chairman of LAHDC Leh, Tsering Angchuk, serving as the Chief Guest, praised the remarkable progress and achievements of the participants. He emphasized that this capacity-building program is an initial step towards the empowerment of Anganwadi workers and rural women, urging them to work towards making this project a successful model of women’s empowerment. He also envisioned Anganwadi centers becoming hubs of women’s empowerment. The Guest of Honor, Commissioner Secretary of Technical Education and Skill Development/Social & Tribal Welfare/Mission Director of Ladakh Skill Development Mission, Padma Angmo, highlighted the importance of skill development in Ladakh’s changing socio-economic landscape. She commended the trainer from Usha International Limited for the trainees’ remarkable progress during the 9-day program. The project will be scaled up based on the outcomes of this pilot project, with the silai school becoming a focal point for sewing skill development in rural areas, catering to the needs of various departments, starting with the social welfare department. Tashi Dolma, Director of the Social Welfare Department, UT Ladakh, mentioned that Anganwadi workers would serve as master trainers to further train and offer livelihood opportunities to women in rural villages. This initiative aims to enhance their abilities and create income-generating opportunities, potentially forming groups of women, akin to self-help groups, in their respective communities to fulfill market and government department apparel requirements. The Nine-Day Capacity Building Program focused on imparting sewing, stitching, and essential life skills to Anganwadi workers and helpers, who play a vital role in the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) of the Social Welfare Department and within their communities. Throughout the program, participants gained hands-on experience in sewing and stitching techniques, machine repairing, and developed essential life skills, nurturing their creative and entrepreneurial potential. The emphasis on general life skills empowered them to navigate life’s challenges more effectively. The successful conclusion of this Nine-Day Capacity Building Program not only celebrates the accomplishments of the participants but also marks a significant step forward in empowering women at the grassroots level in the region. It underscores the power of education and skill development in creating a brighter and more prosperous future for the region. The capacity-building program was jointly organized by the Ladakh Skill Development Mission, Directorate of Social & Tribal Welfare Ladakh, and Usha International Limited under the “Usha Silai School program” pilot Project in the Anganwadi Centres of UT Ladakh. |
