Police intensify crackdown on illegal mining arrest two, seize nine vehicles | | | Early Times Report SAMBA, Nov 11: Acting under the vigilant supervision of Senior Superintendent Benam Tosh, Samba Police has launched a stringent crackdown on illegal mining activities in the sacred Devika River. Two separate FIRs, numbered 16/2023 and 17/2023, have been registered at Police Station Purmandal and through PP Utterbehni, leading to the arrest of two accused and the seizure of nine vehicles. The arrested individuals have been identified as Vishvajeet, son of Subash Chander from Sadral tehsil Bari Brahmana, and Parshotam Kumar, son of Som Dutt from Lovley tehsil Bari Brahmana, both districts of Samba. This marks the first decisive legal action taken by Samba Police in 2023 to curb the menace of illegal mining. In a previous operation in May 2023, one FIR was registered against mining contractors for overcharging, resulting in the arrest of two accused. Senior Superintendent Benam Tosh highlighted the intensified efforts, stating that a total of 209 vehicles have been seized in the past ten months. Additionally, three FIRs have been lodged against illegal mining operations, leading to the arrest of four accused. Substantial fines, amounting to several lacs, have been imposed on the offenders. |
