College Election under the theme ‘Exercise Your Right and Responsibility’ held at GDC Kalakote | | | Early Times Report
Kalakote, Nov 18: An electoral event in the form of college election under the theme ‘Exercise Your Right and Responsibility’ was held at GDC Kalakote under the patronage of Principal Dr. Seema Arora. During the event students practiced voting for CR and Presidential candidate. To help stimulate the experience of voting, examination hall was identified as the college polling place. A mock election booth was set up where students individually exercised votes in the Ballot Box. From the first semester for CR Rahul Singh won against Pooja Devi. From Second Semester Nishad Begum won against Mohd. Arshad. From the fifth semester Bhashart Ali, Ishtiyaq Ahmed and Manjeet Singh won unopposed. Further Bsharat Ali and Kajal Devi were elected unanimously as President and Vice president respectively. The whole event was observed by Mohd. Farooq Mirza HoD Education and Annayat Ullah Khan and event was organized by convener of Event Management Committee Dr. Mohd. Ali Shahbaz. During the event Principal Dr. Seema Arora stated that the right to vote is a bedrock principle in a democracy and electoral participation is an essential civic duty. While many governments around the world deny citizens the power to elect their leaders, the Indian Constitution provides one the opportunity to select their political representatives which is a true sign of democracy. She further added that very often many students feel that their vote does not matter. But through mock elections students learn that outcomes can be decided by a handful of votes. They also learn that if they do not vote, their voice is not heard |
