Srinagar, Nov 18: In an effort to enlighten students and the community on the significance of Fundamental Rights, GDC Darhal conducted a one-day awareness programme on the college premises. The event, organized jointly by NSS and the Department of Political Science, centered around the theme “My Constitution My Pride” under the patronship of Prof. Mussaraf Hussain Shah, the esteemed Principal of the college. Dr. Mehwish Bukhari, Head of the Department of Political Science, opened the programme by emphasizing the crucial role Fundamental Rights play in an individual’s life. She highlighted that these rights act as a shield during times of complexity and difficulty, fostering the growth of responsible and empowered citizens. During her briefing, Dr. Bukhari underscored the irreplaceable nature of Fundamental Rights, stating that without them, an individual’s existence would be rendered worthless. She stressed the responsibility of political institutions to empower all citizens, especially minorities, ensuring their rights to equality, dignity, and religious freedom. Fundamental Rights, she explained, are categorized into six key aspects: Right to Equality, Right to Freedom, Right against Exploitation, Right to Freedom of Religion, Right to Cultural and Educational, and Right to Constitutional Remedy. To enhance understanding, students from the Political Science department actively participated by spreading awareness through posters, sharing their perspectives on Fundamental Rights. In his address, Prof. Mussaraf Hussain Shah reiterated the paramount importance of Fundamental Rights, labeling them as basic human rights enshrined in the Constitution of India. He emphasized that these rights are guaranteed to all citizens without discrimination based on race, religion, gender, or any other factor. Prof. Shah highlighted that Fundamental Rights serve as a safeguard against state intrusion, preventing the establishment of authoritarian rule. He further stated that these rights are essential for the holistic development of individuals and the nation. The successful execution of the event was attributed to the coordination efforts of Dr. Sunil Kumar Mangoch (NSS Program Officer) and Dr. Mehwish Bukhari (Head of the Department of Political Science). The programme proved to be an insightful and enriching experience, fostering a deeper understanding of the principles that form the bedrock of India’s constitutional framework. |
