GDC Paloura organizes essay writing competion
11/18/2023 11:17:54 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 18: The Department of History at GDC Paloura (Mishriwala) recently hosted an enlightening essay writing competition under the patronage of Principal Dr. Ashu Vashisht. The theme for this intellectual battle was “Role of Quit India Movement in India’s Freedom Movement,” aligning with the broader theme of “My Constitution My Pride.”
Students from various semesters enthusiastically participated, delving into the historical significance of the Quit India Movement. The prevailing sentiment among the participants was that this movement played a pivotal role in shaping India’s trajectory towards independence. The essays articulated a consensus among students that the Quit India Movement effectively conveyed the message that India could not be governed without the active support and participation of its people. As the students passionately argued, the British administration eventually recognized that, in the long run, sustaining control over India was an untenable proposition.
The focus shifted from governing India to a more pressing question: how to gracefully and peacefully exit the Indian subcontinent.
In recognition of their insightful reflections, the winners were announced:
• First Prize: Rohit (Semester V)
• Second Prize: Kashish (Semester V) and Chandrika Sharma (Semester III)
• Third Prize: Sahil Manhas (Semester III)
The competition was expertly organized by Prof. Vishal Magotra and Prof. Shikha Bhasin from the Department of History.
The judging panel, led by Prof. Vijay Rukwal, Head of the Political Science Department, brought a wealth of expertise to evaluate the essays.
The event not only showcased the intellectual prowess of the participating students but also highlighted the enduring relevance of historical movements like Quit India in shaping the understanding of India’s journey towards freedom. Such initiatives contribute significantly to fostering a deeper appreciation for the historical roots of India’s democratic ethos and constitutional principles among the student community. The Department of History, under the visionary leadership of Principal Dr. Ashu Vashisht, continues to provide platforms for intellectual discourse and academic exploration.
