Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 23: As a continuation of Constitution Day celebrations, the English Department of the College, under the auspices of IQAC, organized an enlightening awareness lecture on "The Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act." The legislation is a cornerstone in India's legal framework, addressing the care, protection, and rehabilitation of children in conflict with the law and those in need of care and protection. Dr. Indu Koul delivered a compelling lecture on this crucial topic.
Dr. Indu Koul emphasized the core principles of the Juvenile Justice Act, highlighting its focus on rehabilitation rather than punishment for juvenile offenders. The act reflects a commitment to the well-being and positive development of young individuals in conflict with the law.
The lecture delved into the establishment of Juvenile Justice Boards and Child Welfare Committees, crucial components of the act aimed at ensuring a fair and supportive legal process for children.
Dr. Indu underscored the impact of social surroundings on a child's behavior. She stressed the need for stakeholders, including parents and society, to be vigilant in monitoring the feelings and behavior of children. This awareness contributes to creating a supportive environment for their growth.
The lecture concluded with a poignant quote from Chilean poet Gabriela Mistral, emphasizing the essential role of parents and society in providing nurturing care for children. The quote highlighted the societal responsibility of not abandoning children and recognizing the immediacy of their needs.
The event was successfully organized by Dr. Rudrika Khajuria and Dr. Indu Koul from the English Department, demonstrating a commitment to addressing critical societal issues. The worthy Principal of the college, Dr. B. B Anand, provided able guidance for the event.
The awareness lecture on the Juvenile Justice Act stands as a testament to the college's dedication to fostering knowledge beyond academic boundaries and nurturing responsible citizens. It serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility to ensure the well-being and proper development of the younger generation.
