Early Times Report KATHUA, Nov 25: The NSS Units of Government Degree College (GDC), Kathua, orchestrated a significant event on the eve of National Constitution Day, fostering a sense of civic responsibility among students and faculty. The pledge ceremony, attended by the Principal of the college, Prof. Seema Mir, and esteemed senior faculty members, witnessed active participation from over 100 NSS volunteers. Led by NSS volunteer Nikita Sharma, the pledge centered around reciting the preamble of the Constitution, emphasizing the fundamental duties of citizens as enshrined in the Constitution of India. The objective of the program was to disseminate information and generate awareness about citizens' fundamental duties, fostering a realization among rural citizens about their rights and duties. Prof. Seema Mir, addressing the volunteers, highlighted the historical significance of National Constitution Day, commemorating the adoption of the Constitution of India on November 26th. She underlined that this day holds special importance as it marks the adoption of the Constitution by the Constituent Assembly, officially coming into effect on January 26, 1950. The Principal further explained that the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, on November 19, 2015, notified the decision to celebrate November 26th every year as 'Constitution Day' to promote constitutional values among citizens. Prof. Mir emphasized the celebration's purpose: to honor and pay tribute to the invaluable contribution of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, the founding father of the Constitution. The entire event was organized under the patronage of Prof. Seema Mir and supervised by NSS program officers, including Prof. Manmohan Singh, Prof. Neha Bandral, and Dr. Kulbir Singh. The active participation of faculty members and NSS volunteers reflected the college's commitment to instilling constitutional values and a sense of civic duty among the students.
