POUNI, Nov 25: Government Degree College, Pouni, marked National Constitution Day on November 25, 2023, with a series of impactful activities. The event, organized by IQAC in collaboration with the Symposium Department of the college, was conducted under the esteemed guidance of Principal, Dr. Udhey Bhanu.
The activities included a lecture, an oath-taking ceremony, and a symposium. Dr. Prem Singh, HOD Political Science and IQAC Convener, spearheaded the event in coordination with Prof. Balbir Kumar, Prof. Jaspal Singh, Prof. U S Liza, and Tanpreet Singh.
Dr. Prem Singh emphasized that the Indian Constitution is not just a legal document; rather, it serves as a guiding force for the nation to be mindful of the dreams and aspirations of the people, adapting to the changing needs and realities of the times. He provided students with a comprehensive outline of the Constitution of India, tracing the history of the Preamble, its meaning, concept, object, purpose, and scope.
The symposium featured various students who highlighted fundamental duties and rights, engaging in thoughtful discussions. Dr. Udhey Bhanu, the Principal of GDC Pouni, concluded the event by deliberating on the objectives of constituting India into a "sovereign democratic republic" and securing its citizens "justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity." He emphasized that the makers of the Constitution aimed for a welfare state and an egalitarian society, reflecting the aims and aspirations of the people who sacrificed for the country's freedom.
The college witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across all semesters. Following the symposium, an oath-taking ceremony took place, led by Ishika Khajuria, a student of Semester 3rd, who read the preamble in a clear and assertive voice. The ceremony symbolized a collective commitment to the values enshrined in the Constitution of India.
