Early Times Report KOTRANKA, Nov 29: In a commendable initiative, the National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of Government Degree College (GDC) Kotranka, in collaboration with the Department of Blood Transfusion Medicine, Blood Centre, GMC & AH Rajouri, organized a Blood Donation and Awareness Camp at the college premises today. The primary objective of the event was to raise awareness among students about the critical importance of blood donation in saving lives. The event commenced with Dr. Mohd Mushtaq, NSS Programme Officer of the college, introducing the camp and dispelling common myths associated with blood donation. Dr. Mushtaq emphasized that contrary to popular belief, blood donation has a positive impact on health. Nadeem Ahmed Mir from GMC Rajouri shed light on the health benefits of blood donation, urging the youth to actively contribute to saving precious lives by participating in such initiatives. Dr. Iram, Head of the Department of Blood Transfusion Medicine, GMC Rajouri, addressed the gathering, highlighting the alarming number of deaths in the country due to a shortage of blood. She stressed the acute need for more blood donors and called upon the youth to play a pivotal role in addressing this crisis. In his remarks, Dr. Rajinder Singh, the Principal of the college, expressed the view that while there are various ways to contribute to society, blood donation stands out as one of the noblest acts. He emphasized that blood donation transcends religious, caste, and creed boundaries, making it a universal service. Following the enlightening awareness session, a successful blood donation drive took place, with numerous students and staff members of GDC Kotranka voluntarily participating. Their selfless contributions are expected to make a significant impact on the availability of blood for those in need.
