Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 1: The 6th Crop Insurance / PMFBY Week celebrations were inaugurated with the flagging off of the Fasal Bima Yojna Awareness Van at Krishi Bhawan, Jammu, by Director of Agriculture Production Department, Ram Savak. The week-long celebration, from December 1 to December 7, 2023, aims to create awareness about crop insurance and the benefits of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bhima Yojna (PMFBY). Joint Director of Extension, Input and SLUB, representatives from Reliance General Insurance and IFFCO TOKIO General Insurance Companies, along with officers and staff of the Agriculture Department, were present at the inaugural function. The Fasal Bima Yojna Awareness Van, organized by IFFCO TOKIO Insurance Company in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Jammu, under PMFBY, will travel across Jammu division, conducting workshops, visiting banks, and CSC centers. Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials will be distributed during the campaign to maximize coverage among farmers during the Rabi season 2023-24. Director of Agriculture, Ram Savak, highlighted the significance of the Crop Insurance Week, stating that the primary goal is to conduct an extensive awareness campaign and maximize farmer enrollment under the Crop Insurance scheme for the Rabi season 2023-24. He emphasized that PMFBY plays a crucial role in mitigating the financial risk for farmers facing crop losses, stabilizing their income, and ensuring a steady flow of credit in the Agriculture Sector. The Awareness Van will cover all the panchayats in Jammu District, promoting PMFBY and encouraging enrollment among the farming community. Sh. Ram Savak urged farmers to enroll in the scheme to avail benefits against weather-related uncertainties for notified crops, including Paddy and Maize in the Kharif season and Wheat in the Rabi season, with a minimal premium of 2% (Kharif) / 1.5% (Rabi season) as per the Scale of Finance. The campaign seeks to empower farmers with knowledge about crop insurance and contribute to the overall welfare of the agricultural community. |
