National Level Intellectual Property Yatra addresses Enforcement, consequences of IP infringement

JAMMU, Dec 1: The second day of the National Level Intellectual Property (IP) Yatra Programme, organized by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) with the support of the Office of the Development Commissioner MSME, Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Govt. of India, convened at Regale Park, Jammu. The event was honored by the presence of G Velladurai, Joint Director & Head of Office MSME DFO, Jammu, and Vikram Sharma, President, Bar Association Jammu.
The technical sessions of the day were dedicated to the enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and the consequences of IP infringement in India. An IPR Help Desk for MSMEs was also set up to assist micro, small, and medium enterprises with their queries related to IP Rights.
Rahul Sahai, Chair, PHDCCI Jammu Chapter, highlighted the importance of enforcing IPR, emphasizing that it allows rights holders to take legal action against infringers, safeguarding their creations and innovations from unauthorized use.
G Velladurai, Joint Director & Head of Office MSME DFO, Jammu, stressed the enormous potential for growth in Jammu and Kashmir and encouraged industries to leverage MSME schemes. He affirmed the ministry's commitment to supporting and guiding MSMEs, urging entrepreneurs to adopt a focused and strategic approach for business growth and innovation.
Vikram Sharma, President, Bar Association, J&K, commended PHDCCI for organizing the event. In his address, he discussed the significant implications of existing laws on intellectual property rights, especially in the context of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence.
Kanchan Zutshi, Director PHDCCI, drew attention to the health and safety risks associated with counterfeit products. She urged consumers to be vigilant while making purchases and take a pledge to avoid using counterfeit goods.
Legal experts from United & United IPR, including Siddharth Swain, Sadaf, and Neeraj Bhardwaj, provided detailed insights into the enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights and the potential consequences of infringement during the informative session
