Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 13: In a heartwarming celebration of diversity and inclusivity, the Department of Special Education at MIER College recently organized a cultural fest in collaboration with the Inclusive School Model Academy. The event, held to commemorate International Disability Day, was themed "United in Action to Rescue and Achieve the SDGs for, with, and by Persons with Disabilities." The chief guest for the occasion was Dr. Renu Gupta, the Chairperson of MIER, accompanied by Prof. Adit Gupta, Director MIER and Principal MIER College, Mrs. Rupa Gupta, Jt. Director MIER, Pramod Kumar Srivastava, Principal Model Academy School, and other esteemed guests. The event brought together a diverse audience, including parents of children with special needs, faculty members, and students from both MIER College and Inclusive School. The fest kicked off with a warm welcome by Shivani Chib, a student from B.Ed. Special Semester III. Prof. Rohnika Sharma presented a video showcasing academic activities and developmental milestones of students, while a motivational video highlighted the remarkable abilities of children with special needs, evoking pride and happiness among the audience. The Inclusive School students stole the show with an ethnic dress walk, showcasing the diversity and creativity within the inclusive community. A moving speech on World Disability Day by Nishant Bhagat, a student from Inclusive School, left a lasting impact on the audience. The cultural extravaganza continued with an entrancing instrumental song and a group dance performance by Inclusive School students. B.Ed. Special Education students took the stage with a skit emphasizing the crucial role of special educators in schools and raising awareness about special education. Dr. Renu Gupta, in her address, congratulated the special educators and Inclusive School students for their hard work in organizing the engaging event. She expressed gratitude to parents for their encouragement and support, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing the individual before considering their impairment. Dr. Gupta acknowledged the progress made in inclusive education while highlighting the ongoing need for further efforts. The program concluded on a high note with an enthralling pair dance performance featuring B.Ed. Special Education students and students from Inclusive School dancing in harmony. Monika Bhau, a B.Ed. Special Semester III student, delivered a formal vote of thanks, expressing appreciation for the collaborative effort that made the event a success. In addition to the cultural festivities, some students from Inclusive School participated in sports and fun activities organized by Army Public School, Jammu Cantt, under Jammu cluster and schools in the education hub of learning. They were honored with trophies and certificates for their special performances.
