Police files charge-sheet in dowry death case

SAMBA, Dec 13: The Samba police have filed a charge-sheet against five accused, including the husband and two women, in the dowry death case of Jyoti Devi in Redwan Ramgarh. Jyoti Devi, a 24-year-old pregnant woman, died under mysterious circumstances, and the police initiated inquest proceedings on June 22, 2023, at Police Station Ramgarh.
The inquest proceedings were conducted professionally, collecting scientific, documentary, and oral evidence. The police concluded that it was a dowry death case, with the deceased subjected to cruelty and harassment over dowry demands immediately before her death. The inquest proceedings were converted into FIR No.69/2023 under sections 304-B and 313 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and the investigation began.
Five accused, including the husband, were arrested in the case and are currently in judicial remand. The police completed the investigation, proving the offenses against the accused. The charge-sheet has been produced in the court of Addl. Special Mobile Magistrate, Samba, for judicial determination. The accused mentioned in the charge-sheet are Kala Ram (husband of the deceased), Satpal, Parshotam Lal (also known as Bodh Raj), Darshana Devi, and Lovely Rani, all residents of Redwan in the Ramgarh tehsil of Samba district.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Samba, Benam Tosh highlighted the commitment of the police in solving mysterious death cases promptly and professionally. He emphasized that all accused involved in abetment to suicides, dowry deaths, domestic violence, harassment, and torture of deceased individuals are being brought to justice in Samba district.
