Dr Nikhil Mahajan successfully performs rare heart revival surgery at Narayana Hospital

Early Times Report
KATRA, Dec 16: In a groundbreaking medical achievement, Dr. Nikhil Mahajan, leading a dedicated team, has successfully performed a Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Hospital, Kakryal. The patient, initially admitted with reduced heart functioning and severe valve disease, experienced symptoms of heart failure, including shortness of breath and fatigue.
Dr. Nikhil Mahajan highlighted the complexity of the patient's condition, stating, "Aortic valve stenosis is a type of heart valve disease where the valve between the lower left heart chamber and the body's main artery is narrowed, impeding proper blood flow. This often results in severe symptoms and diminished heart pumping capacity, reducing the patient's chances of survival."
The innovative TAVR procedure, as explained by Dr. Nikhil, involves the insertion of a narrow, flexible tube (catheter) into a blood vessel, usually in the upper leg or chest. The catheter is then directed towards the aortic valve, where a replacement valve is deployed over the existing one. This minimally invasive approach serves as a preferable alternative to traditional open-heart surgery.
M M Mathawan, Facility Director at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Super Specialty Hospital, expressed pride in the hospital's capabilities, stating, "This rare and intricate surgery dispels the myth that individuals need to travel to metropolitan cities for world-class treatment. SMVDNH is equipped with state-of-the-art medical facilities and highly qualified expert doctors capable of handling any medical emergency. The hospital has emerged as a preferred tertiary healthcare center in North India."
The successful TAVR surgery at Narayana Hospital reaffirms the institution's commitment to providing advanced medical care, showcasing its prowess in handling complex cases and solidifying its reputation as a healthcare leader in the region.
