BIS organises exposure visit for students of Shiksha Niketan School to Industry at Bari Brahmana

JAMMU, Dec 18: Today, Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office (JKBO) organized an exposure visit for students of Shiksha Niketan Seiner Secondary School Jammu to BIS Jammu office and Industry at Bari Brahmana. The objective of the exposure visit is to give students practical experience of Quality Ecosystem in Product Manufacturing through ISI Mark Certification to make them quality conscious.
It is worth mentioning here that BIS-JKBO has established 328 Standard Clubs in the educational institutes of Jammu & Kashmir and 6 district of Punjab (Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Pathankot & Gurdaspur) including Govt. & Eminent Pvt. Schools, Degree Colleges, Kendriya Vidyalayas, Govt. Polytechnics, Navodaya Vidyalaya, Govt. P.G. College for Women Gandhinagar, Jammu, SKUAST-Jammu, Central University of Jammu, University of Jammu, GCET Jammu, IIT Jammu, MIET Jammu, NIT Jalandhar & NIT Srinagar with an aim to develop scientific approach among the students in their daily life and to make them quality conscious.
Tilak Raj, Director & Head, BIS-JKBO outlined the program objective and gave an overview of working of BIS activities. He talked about the role of BIS in protecting the rights of consumers through standards and Conformity Assessment. BIS Conformity Assessment Schemes provide third-party assurance of product quality, safety, reliability and sustainability to the consumers. He requested the students to best utilize this opportunity through active participation. He also briefed about the objectives of the standards club and various competitions on Quality and Standards to be conducted in each standard club.
Later, Ashish Kumar Dwivedi, Standard Promotion Officer (SPO), BIS-JKBO gave detailed presentation on Standards Formulation, Product certification, Hallmarking and System Certification, Foreign Manufacturers Certification Scheme, Compulsory Registration Scheme, Testing & Calibration Services and International Activities. He also demonstrated e-BIS portal, Know Your Standards webpage through which Indian Standards can be downloaded FREE OF COST. He informed about Mandatory ISI mark certification for 590 products notified by Govt. of India through QCOs to build the Quality Ecosystem in the country. The list includes cement, household electrical goods, LPG cylinders, domestic LPG gas stoves, air-conditioner, structural steel, helmets for 2-wheelers, toys, footwears, compounded cattle feed etc.
Ashish demonstrated BIS Care App through which information on Indian Standards, authenticity of ISI marked of products and Hallmarked jewellery can be easily accessed and complaints can also be registered.
After the interactive program at BIS-JKBO, students visited M/s Jai Beverages, Bari Brahmana where Packaged Drinking Water (IS14543) processing and quality testing were demonstrated to the students.
