GDC Sidhra celebrates Dogri Recognition Day, honoring language and culture

JAMMU, Dec 22: In a vibrant celebration of Dogri Manyta Diwas, the Dogri Department of GDC Sidhra, under the esteemed guidance of Principal Prof. B.B. Anand, orchestrated a memorable event-Dogri Recognition Day. This annual celebration, held on December 22, marks the recognition of Dogri Language by the Parliament of India in the year 2023, when it was included in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
Head of the Dogri Department, Prof. Pooja Sharma, delivered an insightful lecture shedding light on the significance of Dogri Language in promoting Dogra Culture. Her lecture delved into the origin and history of Dogri, emphasizing the deep connection between language and culture. She articulated that language serves as a vital descriptor of one's cultural and historical background, and the preservation of Dogri is integral to safeguarding Dogra heritage.
The event witnessed an enthusiastic participation of students who showcased their love for Dogri culture. Students recited Dogri poems, sang traditional Dogri folk songs and patriotic tunes, and presented a lively dance performance set to a Dogri folk song. Their performances reflected the rich cultural tapestry woven into the fabric of Dogri language.
Various faculty members from GDC Sidhra graced the occasion, showing their support for the preservation and celebration of Dogri Language. Their presence underscored the collective commitment to nurturing linguistic diversity within the educational community.
Principal Prof. B.B. Anand provided invaluable guidance, emphasizing the importance of recognizing and cherishing linguistic heritage. He commended the Dogri Department for organizing an event that not only commemorates Dogri Manyta Diwas but also aligns with the larger vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, fostering cultural preservation and development.
Prof. Pooja Sharma concluded her lecture by stressing the need for collective efforts to ensure the survival and flourishing of Dogri Language. The event served as a reminder that language and culture are intertwined, and preserving one's mother tongue is a continuous struggle that requires the commitment of the community.
