GDC Udhampur remembers S. Ramanujan and other Indian Mathematicians on National Mathematics Day | | | Early times report
Udhampur, Dec 23: In the league of the programs on Azaadi ka Amrit Kaal, in the year of G20 presidency of India, to celebrate the Indian mathematicians on the National Mathematics Day, the Mathematics Department of the College and IQAC in Collaboration with the Mathematics Department of GCW Udhampur under the patronage of Principals of both the colleges, Dr. Romesh Kumar Gupta and Prof. Anjali Mahajan, organized today a One day Students’ Maths Conference on the Topic Indian Mathematicians their Life and Contributions. The objective of the conference was to encourage the students for mathematics, know the place of mathematics in Indian Knowledge System and also to make them conduct their sessions by their selves for honing their leadership skills. Dr. Pavinder Singh, Senior faculty of Mathematics, Central University of Jammu, was the resource person on the Occasion. Prof. Babu Lal Thakur and Dr. Pankaj Sharma were the special invitees on the occasion. Dr. Ashok Sharma and Dr. Ajay Sharma were the coordinators and the Organising Secretary for the event. The program begin with welcoming of the guests and Lighting of the traditional lamp. The resource person was presented a sapling as a part of green initiatives of the college. Principal Prof. Dr. Romesh Kumar Gupta while welcoming the guests and the participants including the students of GDC Udhampur and GCW Udhampur, congratulated all present about the auspicious occasion of the National Mathematics Day and also apprised all about the significance of mathematics, its roots in India, greatest mathematicians of India, Role of Srinivas Ramanujan, and where do we stand today. He showed his concern for the dwindling number of the students opting for Mathematics (which is considered the mother of all sciences), but was also positive that the interested students are giving new heights to the subject. He also said that the road to Viksit Bharat 2047 goes through Mathematics for Sure. He also congratulated all on Dogri Maanta Diwas that is also celebrated today. |
