National Farmer’s Day Celebrated with Road Show, Millet Exhibition in Jammu | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 23: National Farmer’s Day was celebrated at Krishi Bhawan Talab Tillo, Jammu, with a road show and millet exhibition. The day is observed annually in memory of the late Sh. Choudary Charan Singh, former Prime Minister of India. The event aimed to explore the potential of millets in transforming the agricultural landscape. Sh. Shailendra Kumar, IAS, Principal Secretary to the Government APD, J & K UT, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The event was formally inaugurated in the presence of Sh. Ram Savak, Director Agriculture Jammu, along with Heads of Departments (HoDs) of allied departments. The event featured a road show campaign to promote millets and an exhibition. The Principal Secretary inspected various stalls showcasing agricultural activities and provided on-the-spot directions for promoting a unique brand in honey and mushrooms. He urged everyone to incorporate millets into their daily diet for a healthier lifestyle, emphasizing the importance of abstaining from unhealthy food. The Principal Secretary reiterated the Agriculture Department’s commitment to increasing awareness about millet consumption and ensuring a full-day meal made of millet once a week for students and faculty to promote a healthier lifestyle. He encouraged everyone present to promote millet consumption as a chemical-free and healthier alternative. Responding to queries from members of the Kisan Advisory Board, the Principal Secretary informed them that the department has issued an order facilitating the sale/purchase of animals within and outside the UT. He also mentioned that Deputy Commissioners have been directed to actively pursue PMKISAN cases and expedite KCC activation under the Kisan Bhagidhari Prathmikta campaign. Sh. Ram Savak, Director Agriculture Jammu, in his welcome address, described the Millets Mela as a unique platform for all stakeholders to connect. He emphasized the age-old healthy practice of incorporating millets into diets for a healthy lifestyle. Referring to the Indian government’s focus on reintroducing health supplements containing millets, he urged collaboration to promote awareness about millets, leading to increased consumption and cultivation for the benefit of farmers. He also highlighted various achievements of schemes under the dynamic leadership of the Principal Secretary. |
