Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 26: The spirited city of Jammu clinched the championship title in the 17th UT J&K Wushu Championship 2023, a thrilling six-day event that concluded with an atmosphere charged with sportsmanship and excitement. Nuzhat Gul, Secretary of JKSC, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, joined by notable dignitaries including Ritu Singh, Mona Gupta, Vijay Saraf (General Secretary WAI), and Bhavneet (General Secretary WAJK). Manesh Gupta, Editor-in-Chief of Early Times, and Umesh were honored as Guests of Honors. Addressing the valedictory function, Ms. Nuzhat Gul urged parents to encourage their children to pursue sports, emphasizing the values of discipline, dedication, determination, and learning from losses that sports instill. She announced the approval of four high-performance centers for Wushu, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, scientific support, and top-notch coaches. Ms. Gul also echoed the national campaign to make Bharat Nasha Mukht, a call initiated by the Honorable Prime Minister of India. Commending the Wushu Association of J&K for organizing the mega event, involving 1200 players from 19 districts, 5 Khelo India Centers, and J&K police, Ms. Nuzhat Gul set an optimistic tone for the future of sports in the region. Vijay Saraf, President of WAJK, delivered a welcome speech, acknowledging the participants and guests for their contributions to the event. The awards ceremony saw Jammu emerging as the overall champions, with District Srinagar securing the 2nd position and Khelo India Centre Shopian securing the 3rd position. The event showcased outstanding performances across various categories, with participants showcasing their skills in Sanda and Taolu. Ms. Bhavneet presented the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the J&K Sports Council, district unit heads, participants, media, and all those who contributed to the success of the event.
