OBCs of J&K deceived again: BJP Government's Reservation Act draws criticism | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 27: Adv. Suresh Dogra, General Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) and former Chairman of the OBC Department of JKPCC, expressed disappointment with the BJP-led Central government for what he called a "big deception" against the OBCs of Jammu and Kashmir. Adv. Suresh Dogra's remarks came in response to the Ministry of Home Affairs notifying the enforcement of the J&K Reservation (Amendment) Act 2023 on December 26, 2023. The J&K Reservation (Amendment) Act 2023 aimed to address the rights of those who faced injustice. However, according to Adv. Suresh Dogra, the legislation fell short of fulfilling the long-pending demands of the OBCs of J&K, despite expectations following the abrogation of Article 370 and 35A. Adv. Suresh Dogra emphasized that the Mandal Commission report, which guarantees 27% reservation for the underprivileged OBCs, was anticipated to be implemented in Jammu and Kashmir after the constitutional changes. However, the Amendment Act 2023 did not meet these expectations, leaving the OBC community disillusioned. While acknowledging the inclusion of more castes in the new Amendment Reservation Act, Adv. Suresh Dogra criticized the government's approach, stating, "Ek Anar, sou Bimar," highlighting the insufficiency of the provisions for those who faced injustice. He accused the BJP government of playing a "dirty game" and subjecting the innocent OBC class to further injustice. Adv. Suresh Dogra reiterated that the fight for the rights of the Other Backward Classes in Jammu and Kashmir would persist. Despite the OBC population exceeding 65% with the addition of 15 more castes, there is no provision for political reservation in the Assembly and Parliament, making them powerless. He also criticized the SEBC commission, headed by Retd. Justice GD Sharma, for not doing justice to those who have been facing injustice for an extended period. The call for justice for the OBCs of Jammu and Kashmir continues. |
