Shiv Sena demands roll back of toll hike
12/27/2023 10:25:29 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 27: Shiv Sena (UBT) Jammu and Kashmir unit has expressed strong anger over the decision to double the toll collection at Chinani-Nashri toll plaza and has warned to roll it back or take to the streets.
In a press conference held at the party state office today, state chief Manish Sahni accused the government of taking decisions exactly contrary to the demands of the people. He said that the public is demanding freedom from toll and the government doubling the collection rates. He said that decisions are being taken every day to hit the pockets of the people struggling with inflation and unemployment. After increase in electricity and water rates to the public, increase in license rates of shopkeepers and street vendors, and property tax, now the toll collection at Nashri toll plaza has suddenly been doubled.
Sahni also raised questions on the rates and numbers of toll in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Sahni said that three toll plazas have been built on the 140 kilometer road from Jammu to Katra religious city (where the world famous Shri Mata Vaishno Devi's court is located). This road route has the highest number of devotees coming to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi. Sahni said that there is a provision to increase the toll rates at the beginning of the financial year, but in Jammu and Kashmir, the toll has been doubled without considering all the rules. Sahni warned in a warning tone to roll back this increase or else take to the streets. On this occasion president mehila wing Meenakshi chibber, Gen Secretary Vikas Bakshi were present.
