| Intense cold, dense fog affects life in Kashmir | | |

Srinagar, Dec 27: Intense cold and dense fog engulfed parts of the Kashmir valley on Wednesday.
Meteorological Centre Srinagar forecast weather generally will remain dry with moderate to dense fog over Central Kashmir, the Plains of Baramulla, Ganderbal, and Pulwama district till the end of the month. It said there is a possibility of light snow over higher reaches during the evening or night on the new year’s eve over Jammu and Kashmir.
The weather will remain generally dry during January 1?2, 2024, while there could be light rain or snow in scattered places on January 3?4, the MeT office said.
Srinagar and other parts of the Kashmir valley were engulfed with a thick layer of fog that reduced visibility and affected normal life on Wednesday. Vehicles had to keep on their head lights while moving on the roads in Srinagar.
The minimum temperature improved in Srinagar on Wednesday and recorded a low of -2.6?C against the -3-0?C recorded on Tuesday. It was 0.5?C below normal for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir during this period of the season.
The maximum temperature recorded was 0.6?C above the normal of 8.6?C, against 9.2?C in Srinagar the previous day.
The minimum temperature at Qazigund on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway plummeted to a low of -3.2?C against the -3.0?C recorded the previous night, while Kokernag had a low of -2.2?C against the -2.0?C recovered Tuesday.
The minimum temperature, although improved by a notch in Pahalgam, remained the coldest place in Kashmir Valley, at -4.6?C against the -4.7?C recorded the previous night. It was, however, 0.6?C above normal for the tourist hot spot in south Kashmir.
The night temperature recorded a dip at Gulmarg to -2.8?C on Wednesday against the -2.4?C recorded a day ago, and it was 3.4?C above normal for the famous ski resort of north Kashmir.
The mercury at Kupwara plunged to -4.2?C against the -3.5?C recorded the previous night. It was 1.7?C below normal for the north Kashmir district, the MeT office said. |
