Cold wave intensifies in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Dec 31: The mercury witnessed a fall at many stations in the Kashmir valley as Srinagar recorded a low of -3.4 C, Gulmarg -3.5C, and Kupwara -3.8 C on Sunday, officials said. The Meteorological Centre Srinagar predicts weather to remain generally cloudy and dry until January 5, 2024. "Overall, there is no significant weather activity till January," it said.
The night temperature witnessed a dip in Srinagar on Sunday and recorded a low of -3.4?C against the -2.8C recorded Saturday night. It was 1.3?C below normal for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir during this period of the season.
The maximum temperature recorded was 0.1 C above the normal of 7.9 C against 8.0 C in Srinagar the previous day.
Pahalgam settled at -3.4 C against the -4.1 C recorded the previous night. It was -18 C above normal for the tourist host spot in south Kashmir.
Qazigund on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway plunged to a low of -2.6 C against the -2.0 C recorded the previous night, while Kokernag had a low of -1.4 C against the -1.3 recorded a day ago.
The mercury at Gulmarg plummeted to -3.5 C against the -2.5 C recorded the previous night. It was 2.7?C above normal for the famous ski resort of North Kashmir.
The night temperature at Kupwara plunged to a low of -3.8 C against the -2-3 C recorded a day ago. It was 1.3 C below normal for the north Kashmir district, the MeT office said.
