Jammu, Jan 12: To commemorate Swami Vivekananda Ji’s Birth Anniversary as National Youth Day, the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu in coordination with the Campus Cultural Committee and Students Cultural Council organized Lohri 2024 Celebrations on the Campus. Prof. Bechan Lal, esteemed Vice Chancellor, Cluster University of Jammu was the Chief Guest on the occasion who appreciated the organizers for this thoughtful event which aimed at channelizing the energy of youth and connecting them to their traditions and culture. Prof. Meena Sharma, Dean Planning and Development, University of Jammu, Presided over the function.
Earlier, in her welcome address, Prof. Monika Chadha, Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee informed about the reason of organizing this event and integrating it into the important occasion of National Youth Day making it encouraging for the youth. Students from different departments enthralled the audience with captivating performances, immersing everyone in the rich cultural essence of Lohri. The event emphasized the pivotal role of youth in preserving and promoting cultural heritage. From Bhangra performances to soulful renditions of folk songs, the cultural items presented resonated with the spirit of Lohri, showcasing diversity and unity. The traditional ritual of lighting the bonfire added a poignant touch, fostering a deep connection with the roots of this festival.
The events of DSW are conceived, planned and organised by the team consisting of Prof. Prakash Antahal (Dean Students Welfare), Prof. Monika Chadha (Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee), Prof. Sarika Manhas (Co-Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee), Dr. Pritam Singh (Associate Dean SW), Dr. Garima Gupta (Assistant Dean, SW), Dr. Shallu Sharma & Dr. A.R. Manhas (Deputy Proctors), members of Campus Cultural Committee, Ms Mansi Mantoo (Media Officer), Ifra Kak (Cultural Officer) and Sumeet Sharma (Drama Instructor). The events were witnessed by the dignitaries of University, members of Campus Cultural Committee, teachers, students, scholars of the University of Jammu. The event was conducted by Suriya Bano and Amandeep Kour. The sound was looked after by Kulbhushan Thakur and Arif Paul.
