Early Times Report
UDHAMPUR, Jan 15: In a heartwarming celebration, Govt. Degree College Udhampur embraced the festive spirit of Lohri on January 12, 2024, with fervor and enthusiasm. The college ground came alive with the crackling sound of the bonfire, marking the beginning of the festivities.
Students and staff immersed themselves in the joyous occasion, partaking in the traditional rituals of Lohri. Peanuts and popcorn were joyfully distributed among the attendees, creating an atmosphere of camaraderie and unity. The highlight of the event was the collective offering of nuts, rewris, and gajhak to the God of Fire, a symbolic gesture that resonated with the essence of the festival.
Under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Romesh Kumar Gupta, Principal of GDC Udhampur, the participants sang praises for 'Dulla Bhatti,' the central figure commemorated during Lohri. Dr. Gupta extended warm wishes for a happy and prosperous new year to all, emphasizing the importance of fostering a spirit of success in both academic and extracurricular pursuits.
Expressing appreciation for the students' active participation, Dr. Gupta encouraged the teaching faculty to play a vital role in preserving and promoting cultural traditions through such celebrations. He underscored the significance of Lohri as a festival of feast and food, urging everyone to pray for a healthy and prosperous year ahead.
The event not only showcased the rich cultural tapestry of the region but also served as a reminder of the importance of unity and tradition in the college community. As the bonfire flickered in the night, the echoes of laughter and song lingered, creating lasting memories of a joyous Lohri celebration at GDC Udhampur.
