Samba Police busts gang of thieves, arrests kingpin, accomplices | | | Early Times Report SAMBA, Jan 15: In a major success, the Samba Police have successfully dismantled a gang of thieves, apprehending three notorious individuals, including the alleged kingpin. The arrests were made in the jurisdiction of the Ghagwal police station, and a vehicle used in the commission of thefts was seized. Stolen items worth approximately rupees 90,000.00 were also recovered during the operation. The arrested individuals have been identified as Omkar Bhagat alias Gushu, son of Raj Kumar, and Roop Lal alias Roopa, son of Bodh Raj, both residents of Hamirpur, tehsil Marheen, district Kathua, and Sourav Sharma alias Kalu, son of Ram Krishan, resident of Sandi tehsil Ghagwal, district Samba. Omkar Bhagat, identified as the kingpin of the notorious gang, was allegedly involved in a series of thefts in the Samba district during midnight hours. The other accomplices reportedly carried out thefts at the direction of Bhagat. The arrests were made in connection with FIR No. 04/2024 under section 379 IPC and FIR No. 01/2024 under section 454/380 IPC, both registered at PS Ghagwal. Ongoing investigations aim to uncover the full extent of the gang's activities, and police raids are underway to apprehend all individuals associated with the notorious group. Senior Superintendent of Police Samba, Benam Tosh, stated that a total of 181 thieves have been arrested, and 88 theft cases have been solved by the Samba Police in a short span of time. This success is part of an intensive drive against thieves in the Samba district, demonstrating the commitment of the police force to maintaining law and order in the region. |
