SUF holds meeting to commemorate Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Ji's birth anniversary | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 28: An emergency meeting convened by the Sikh United Front J&K, in collaboration with various Sikh organizations across Jammu and Kashmir, was chaired by S. Sudershan Singh Wazir, Chairman of Sikh United Front J&K. The meeting, organized to mark the birth anniversary of Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Ji, saw S. Sudarshan Singh Wazir extending congratulations to the Sikh community worldwide. Baba Deep Singh Ji, born on January 26, 1682, in the village of Pahuwind in Turntaran, District Amritsar, is celebrated for his significant contributions to Sikhism and his ultimate sacrifice. At the age of eighteen, Baba Deep Singh Ji visited Anandpur Sahib with his family, where he was baptized by Guru Gobind Singh Ji. He later dedicated himself to the practice of Armour (Shastar Vidia) and religious activities. After the battle of Anandpur Sahib and Chamkor Sahib, Guru Gobind Singh Ji advised Baba Deep Singh Ji to return to his village and work for Sikhism. Baba Deep Singh Ji played a pivotal role in the preparation of copies of Guru Granth Sahib at Damdama Sahib, undertaking the task of providing ink, paper, and pen. The copies, including the Bani of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji, were completed in nine months. Baba Deep Singh Ji, along with hundreds of Khalsa soldiers, assisted Baba Banda Singh Bahadur in crushing the reign of Wazir Khan at Fatehgarh Sahib. Notably, Baba Deep Singh Ji played a crucial role in liberating Darbar Sahib Amritsar from the oppressive forces. The meeting was attended by prominent members of the Sikh community, including S. Mohinder Singh, Chief Organizer of Bhai Kanhiaya Nishkam Sewa Society J&K; S. Darbinder Singh, President Shiromani Akali Dal J&K; S. Rajinder Singh, General Secretary Shiromani Akali Dal J&K; and other dignitaries from various Sikh organizations. The participants emphasized the importance of preserving the legacy of Baba Deep Singh Ji and the sacrifices made by the Sikh community. The meeting served as a platform for unity and solidarity among Sikh organizations in Jammu and Kashmir. |
