GDC RS Pura observes Martyr's Day | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 30: January 30 is observed as Martyrs' Day, also known as 'Shaheed Diwas' or 'Sarvodaya Day', across the country to honour those who sacrificed their lives for the country's independence. The day holds significance as it marks the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi -- the Father of the Nation. To commemorate the day NSS, NCC and Viksit Bharat club of GDC R. S. Pura organized a program to pay tribute and homage to the unsung heroes of our nation. The event was presided over by Prof. Shifali Abrol, who gave an introductory speech on the event and threw light on the significance of the day. The event followed by a two-minute silence in memory of our martyrs which was followed by a pledge to follow the path of truth and non-violence. During the program, Dr. Rakesh Choudhary, ANO NCC / HoD of Political Science, gave a speech in which he praised Mahatma Gandhi's role in India's freedom struggle and urged the students to adopt Gandhi's three principles of truth, non-violence, and religious harmony in their lives."Mahatma Gandhi is a special person the world has ever seen," he said "The role of Mahatma Gandhi in our freedom struggle is unforgettable. Adopting Gandhi's three basic principles truth, non-violence and religious harmony in our hearts will be the greatest respect we give to him." While speaking on the occasion Dr. Sunil Kumar Mangoch, Nodal Officer Viksit Bharat said, "We are honored to commemorate Martyrs Day and pay tribute to the brave individuals who sacrificed their lives for our country's freedom. We hope that this program will inspire our students to uphold the values of truth, non-violence, and religious harmony, which were so important to Mahatma Gandhi. The event was organized under the able guidance of Dr. Rajni Bhagat, esteemed Principal of the college. She went on to highlight how Gandhi's use of the simple weapon of 'Satyagraha' gifted India independence from the hands of the British, who had considered themselves as the mightiest. "India is the only country in the entire world, which became independent without using violence, and the complete credit goes to Mahatma Gandhi," she observed. There was an amazing feeling of contentment filled with pride when the day ended with a promise to join hands and work towards building a better nation ahead.The event was attended by all the teaching, non- teaching faculty and students of the college with zeal, enthusiasm and patriotic fervor.Computer Science Department Head, Prof Sankeet Gupta gave a vote of thanks. |
